Seals Hang On for 7-6 Win in Cowtown.

San Diego Snag Win in Brodie Merrill's Epic Return to the Floor in Calgary.

The game carried emotional weight for both Brodie Merrill, who unretired this week for another shot at a title, and Curtis Dickson, who returned to Calgary after spending the majority of his career there before joining San Diego. Chris Origlieri allowed a season-low six goals. Origlieri set the tone early with big saves on the first two possessions of the game and he continued his stellar performance with beautiful saves throughout the game.

Tre Leclaire initiated the scoring for the Seals with a shot just outside the crease. The goal was assisted by Curtis Dickson, who now joined an exclusive club as the 16th player in National Lacrosse League history to tally 1,000 career points.

A short time later, Austin Staats added to the tally with a powerful shot from mid-range and just five seconds after Staats’ goal, Kyle Jackson followed suit, managing to score despite falling hard to the ground.

Scoring remained low in the second quarter until Wes Berg netted one behind the back off a delicate pass from Curtis Dickson. Calgary responded on the power play with a goal late in the first half but the Seals led 6-2 going into halftime.

Calgary emerged strong in the second half, scoring three consecutive goals to get within 6-5. Leclaire broke the Seals' scoring drought with a goal assisted by a cross-field pass from Staats and the Seals went back up 7-5.

Origlieri continued to excel in goal, making crucial saves late in the second half as the Seals held on for the win. The six goals allowed by the Seals was a season low.

Tensions escalated in the fourth quarter with Eli Gobrecht and Tanner Cook both serving 2 minutes for roughing. Ultimately, the Seals emerged victorious in Calgary, securing the win to take back to the Golden State.

With the win, the Seals improve to 10-4 on the season. They will return home to Pechanga Arena to face the Las Vegas Desert Dogs next Saturday night (March 23) at 7 p.m. PT. It’s the team’s Military Appreciation Game and after the Seals and Desert Dogs do battle, rock icon Bret Michaels will perform in the Arena for all fans in attendance.
