Seals Fall to Toronto 12-7

Seals Fall to Toronto Rock, 12–7

The San Diego Seals came out with energy but ultimately fell to the Toronto Rock, 12–7, on Friday night at Pechanga Arena San Diego. The loss moves the Seals to 0–3 at home and 1–3 on the season.

San Diego struck first in the opening quarter after Toronto took back-to-back penalties, giving the Seals a 5-on-3 advantage. Corey Small capitalized immediately to put the Seals on the board. Toronto answered to tie things up, but despite a penalty-filled and physical first frame, San Diego stayed aggressive. After a Currier crease dive late in the quarter, the Seals took a 3–2 lead heading into the second.

The Seals extended the lead early in the second when Pat Kavanagh found Wes Berg with a smooth feed to make it 4–2. Toronto, however, closed the half strong scoring three unanswered goals, including one with just five seconds left sending the Rock into halftime with a 5–4 lead.

Toronto continued to build momentum in the third, scoring early to make it 6–4. Tre LeClaire responded with a gritty crease goal to pull the Seals back within one and later tied the game at 6–6 with another diving finish. The game turned chippy, with multiple penalties and a four-minute Seals power play, but Toronto’s penalty kill held firm. The Rock answered quickly and added a late goal to take an 8–6 lead into the fourth.

Toronto pulled away in the final frame extending the lead to 10–6 before Currier notched his second of the night to give the Seals some life. The Rock responded immediately and closed out the game with two more goals, securing the 12–7 win.

The Seals look to bounce back as they hit the road for two back to back games in Vancouver against the Warriors and in Philadelphia against the Wings.

Seals are back home Friday, January 30th for Heroes Night.
