Seals defenseman Eli Gobrecht recently received some very exciting news that his alma mater, Ithaca College, had selected him for induction into the school’s Department of Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame.
The induction ceremony is slated for tonight at Ithaca.
The 33-year-old Gobrecht has played his entire NLL career with the Seals.
As a collegian, he was one of the most dominant defensive players to ever compete for Ithaca’s men's lacrosse program. He was a three-time All-American and the USILA Defensive Player of the Year in 2016.
Gobrecht played in 77 games and helped the Bombers to the best season in program history as a senior. The Bombers went 20-1, earned the No. 1 ranking in the country and reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Championship.
He totaled 100 ground balls and 65 turnovers as a senior and finished his career ranked top six all-time in ground balls with 266 and caused turnovers with 166.
Gobrecht was drafted by the Denver Outlaws in the MLL Supplemental Draft in 2018 and won the MLL Championship that season. A year later, he signed with the Seals. He also won a PLL title in 2022 with the Waterdogs and was invited to try out for the USA Lacrosse Team in 2022. In 2024, Gobrecht played for Team USA in the Indoor World Lacrosse Box Championship, where the team took the silver medal, which was the best finish by a U.S. team at that event in its history.
Gobrecht will be inducted into Ithaca’s Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame along with the school’s 1991 National Championship football team, Phil Barera (men’s basketball), Nicole Cade (softball), Tim Faulkner (tennis and football coach), Marc Israel and Joel Lamson (wrestling), Sharon Li (golf) and Neth Wiedemann (lacrosse).
Congratulations to Eli!!
