Seals Announce Three-Year Contract With First-Round Pick Aidan Maguire Among Flurry of Signings

The San Diego Seals made big news today, announcing that the team had signed its first-round pick in the 2026 NLL Draft, left-handed defenseman Aidan Maguire, to a three-year contract. It was one of a flurry of signings announced by the team.

In addition to Maguire, the Seals have signed left-handed forward Brennan O’Neill and right-handed forward Phil Caputo to two-year and one-year deals, respectively. The Seals recently secured both O’Neill and Caputo’s rights via the NLL’s disbursement draft. The Seals also announced the signings of a trio of undrafted rookie free agents to three-year contracts: faceoff specialist Luca Accardo, right-handed defender Liam Kammar and left-handed forward Michael Weisshaar.

The Seals drafted Maguire 10th overall after a highly decorated career at Duke, where he was named the Raymond J. Enners National Most Outstanding Player of the Year in 2026 and the Lt. Donald MacLaughlin National Midfielder of the Year in 2025. Maguire was a two-time consensus first-team All-America (2025 and ’26), the Atlantic Coast Conference’s co-Defensive Player of the Year in 2025 and an All-ACC pick in 2025 and ’26. He also was named Duke’s Male Senior Student-Athlete of the Year in 2026 and four times (2023-26) he was named to the All-ACC Academic Team and the Academic Honor Roll.

A 6-3, 230 pounder out of Bay Shore, New York, O’Neill was the first overall pick in the 2024 NLL Draft by Philadelphia. He played two seasons with the Wings, scoring 56 goals and recording 69 assists (125 total points). One of the world’s top outdoor lacrosse athletes, O’Neill was the only collegiate player selected to compete on Team USA’s gold medal winning side in the World Lacrosse Men’s Outdoor Championships in 2023, and he scored a team-leading five goals in the gold medal match against Canada on his way to earning tournament MVP and Most Outstanding Midfielder honors and O’Neill parlayed that effort into being selected first overall by the Denver Outlaws in the 2024 Premier League Draft.

Caputo is an established 10-year NLL veteran whose career has seen him make stops in New England, Toronto, Rochester, Panther City, Philadelphia and Ottawa. The 32-year-old 6-3, 200 pounder from Brampton, Ontario, Canada was drafted 28th overall by New England in 2015. After bouncing around early in his career, Caputo became a key cog in Panther City’s offense during the 2022-24 seasons when he scored 80 goals and racked up 50 assists. His career totals heading into the 2026-27 season include 115 games played, 142 goals scored, 88 assists recorded for 230 career points to go along with 321 loose balls secured.

Accardo, 5-7, 185, comes from High Point University where he was a two-time all-conference pick who led the Atlantic 10 and ranked in the top 10 nationally in both faceoff wins (207) and faceoff win percentage (63.7%) as a senior.

Kammar, 6-0, 205, comes from Drexel University where he was a three-time team captain who was recognized as an honorable mention All-America as a senior. Kammar scooped up 156 ground balls during his career while causing 35 opposition turnovers.

Weisshaar, 5-9, 170, enjoyed a highly decorated career at Towson University, graduating as the all-time points leader in school history (234) while tying for the most goals scored (154) in school annals. In addition to being signed by the Seals, Weisshaar was the second overall pick in this year’s outdoor Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) Draft. A Tewarton Trophy nominee as a senior, Weisshaar’s honors at Towson included being named the Colonial Athletic Conference’s Offensive Player of the Year as a senior in 2026 along with a host of All-America and all-conference honors.

These signings are the latest in a busy offseason for the Seals that has also seen the team sign/re-sign forwards Ben McIntosh (three years) Connor Robinson (one year), Clark Walter (two years) and Gregory Elijah-Brown (three years), along with defensemen Trent DiCicco (three years), Graydon Bradley (two years), Cam Acchione (two years), Trent Robertson (three years), Dylan Hutchison (two years) and Jake Saunders (one year), and goaltender Cam Dunkerley (one year). The Seals also placed the franchise tag on reigning NLL Transition Player of the Year Zach Currier, while extending the contracts of Head Coach Patrick Merrill’s top two lieutenants, Offensive Coordinator Jordan Hall and Defensive Coordinator Cam Woods.

The Seals also added five during the 2026 NLL Draft on Sept. 24, selecting, in order, defenseman Aidan Maguire from Duke, forwards Lucas Dudemaine from Georgetown and Bowie Horsman from Cornell, goaltender Greyson Beggs from the BCJALL and defenseman Owen Wills from Saint Leo.
